REGISTERED PROJECT MANAGER AWARD
Background
The
Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) is acknowledged throughout the world as the leader in defining and recognizing
excellence in project management. This is reflected through their Registered Project Manager (RegPM) Award, accepted world-wide
as the single most effective means for recognizing excellence in project management.
The
Award
There
are three levels of award, each aligned against the different levels of project management found in the workplace:
While
each award is relevant to different levels of project management, the way in which they are awarded is the same – recognition
that the candidate for the award has, and can apply, the skills and knowledge appropriate to a competent and effective project
team leader, project manager, or program manager/project director. This means that a candidate for an award does not have
to be working at that level, simply that he/she can produce evidence that shows his/her skills and knowledge are at that level.
The
standards upon which each level of award is based are reflective of the skills and knowledge of project managers who are the
leaders in their fields. These have been identified through extensive research by the AIPM, the Project Management Institute
(PMI), and the International Project Management Association (IPMA).
Because
it is accepted that achievement of these standards comes about more through on the job experience and the application of skills
and knowledge not found in many training courses, assessment is carried out of what the candidate has done in the past and
is currently doing, not of what he/she was taught or learned through training. It is also of the candidate’s future
capability and not just what he/she achieved in the past. This means that access to assessment is open to anyone regardless
of age, gender, educational qualifications or training experience.
